Six youths held up a Palmerston North dairy with fake guns and a bat before making off with cash and cigarettes last night.
Police are today reviewing security footage after the Rangiora Mini Mart in Roslyn was robbed and a shop assistant attacked with imitation firearms and a baseball bat.
A shopper inside the store at the time escaped without injury during the violent robbery.
Today Manawatu Police area investigations manager Senior Sergeant Craig Sheridan said six young men entered the store just after 6pm.
The shop assistant was attacked before the gang left with an unknown amount of cash and cigarettes.
The victim was today being supported by police and his family after being treated for injuries at Palmerston North Hospital.
Sheridan said he would be interviewed today.
As well as speaking to people in the area, police were also working with the shopper who was in the store at the time.
Sheridan said police would be reviewing CCTV footage and examine the scene today.
As well police would be increasing the number of patrols in the Rangiora Ave area.
