A swimmer who was reported missing in the Westhaven Marina this morning is believed to be safe and well - but police want him to get in touch, just in case.
Two men jumped in the water at the marina early this morning after meeting at a bar on K Rd.
Officers were alerted at 5.31am, with one male recovered from the water by a security boat and taken to Auckland City Hospital.
A water, land and air search commenced for the other man this morning but it has been suspended.
After speaking with witnesses police now think the second man got safely out of the water on the North Shore side of the harbour.
The search will not resume unless any further information comes to light.
"The man in hospital has told police that they met in a bar on K Rd," said a police spokesperson.
"He does not know the other man, other than he is Caucasian and is called 'Johnny'."
A police boat was searching the area today. The water was flat and conditions were calm at the time of the report to police.
A police spokeswoman said the two men were swimming in a south-to-north direction.
Police ask the man, known as "Johnny", to contact Auckland Central Police on (09) 526 7300 to confirm he is safe and well.
