Serious assault in Napier

One man is in jail and another in hospital, after an assault outside a Napier bottle store.

A police spokesperson said they were called to reports of a fight between two men just after 2am today.

They found a 38-year-old man with serious injuries outside the Big Barrel Liquor store on the corner of Durham and York Avenue.

He has been admitted to Hawke's Bay Hospital.

Another man is being held in custody but no charges have been laid so far.

CIB have put up a cordon at the scene and are conducting a scene examination.
