A section of Auckland's southern motorway is closed after two trucks crashed near the Bombay Hills.

A police spokeswoman said a logging truck and a freight truck collided on the southbound lanes of the motorway between Ramarama and Bombay.

The motorway was closed at Ramarama after midday and traffic is now being diverted to the Drury and Ramarama off-ramps.

St Johns Ambulance tweeted a person was taken to Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition.

The accident, which happened just after 11.05am, initially left two lanes blocked.

Motorists heading south were warned to expect delays from Ramarama.

Cameras show long queues forming for kilometres in both southbound lanes of the motorway.

Fire Service northern shift manager Megan Ruru said neither driver was trapped in the crash.
