A Matamata pedestrian miraculously escaped serious injury after being hit by a truck this morning.

Waikato police said the accident happened on a 50km/h section of Seddon St, Waharoa - on the outskirts of Matamata - at 10.30am today.

It is not clear exactly what happened but police said the driver was travelling slowly and the pedestrian suffered only minor injuries.

Meanwhile, a truck and car collided on the Southern Motorway, Auckland just before 10.30am.

The car hit the barrier but no one was injured in the crash, which happened on a south-bound lane between Market Rd and Greenlane.

Traffic was heavy for a time as the left lane was partially blocked.
