Sunny skies are set to disappear in a matter of hours, with thunderstorms and hail expected to hit Hawke's Bay later this afternoon.
Metservice Meteorologist, Lisa Murray said there will be "quite a significant change from blue skies to grey and overcast."
"Thunderstorms are underway. Currently over Wairarapa - just on the boarder of Hawke's Bay. It will be in the next hour or two."
"About Gisborne, northern Hawkes Bay and inland Central Hawkes Bay sea breezes and afternoon heating are likely to create convection before the front arrives. There is a moderate risk of thunderstorms in these areas during the afternoon and evening. These thunderstorms could have localised heavy rain with intensities of 10 to 25mm per hour and hail of 5 to 20mm in diameter," Ms Murray said.
Temperatures are also set to drop dramatically.
