A woman who died after being hit by a car early on Sunday morning is being mourned by her family and friends.
The woman was 25-year-old Andrea Lorraine Hitchens of Opotiki. The incident occurred on Daltons Rd, Canvastown, near State Highway 6.
Police were called to the accident shortly aftermidnight and the road was closed for nearly 12 hours while the Serious Crash Unit investigated the scene.
Hitchens' cousin Megan Hati paid tribute on Facebook writing that she had hundreds of good memories of times shared with Hitchens that she would cherish forever.
"Just like that you've been taken from us... I'm speechless don't know what to say.
A police spokeswoman said the crash investigation was ongoing.
"Each traffic crash is investigated on a case by case basis and some investigations, especially fatal crashes, take longer than others as you can imagine."
