The search for a missing 18-year-old off the coast of New Plymouth will resume at 7am.
Two men fell into the water when their boat capsized off Back Beach about 6.30am Monday.
One man, a 26-year-old, swam ashore to raise the alarm and a call was made to police about 9.20am.
The second man is yet to be found and the search - which involved police, surf life savers, land search and rescue volunteers, the Taranaki rescue helicopter and the South Taranaki coastguard - was called off at 6pm.
The man who swam ashore was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
At this stage, police believe the pair weren't wearing lifejackets at the time of the accident.
