A crash that blocked a busy central Auckland motorway link heading to the Port has been cleared.

The New Zealand Transport Agency said traffic was now heavy in the area after an earlier crash on the Spaghetti Junction link from the Northern Motorway to the waterfront.

Traffic was diverted on to the North-western Motorway and motorist were advised to take an earlier exit to avoid getting caught up in queues.

The crash caused congestion from the Harbour Bridge and traffic still remained heavy in the area.

Meanwhile further south fog is plaguing motorists on the southern motorway.

Patches of thick fog is reducing visibility around Papakura and Takanini.
