People will be able to bike or walk from Devonport to St Heliers via the proposed SkyPath, crossing the water under a new tube-like structure suspended beneath the Auckland Harbour Bridge.
It's a green light for Auckland's SkyPath - it'll will go ahead with private backing.
It's been rubber stamped at the Council's Governing Body meeting today.
With some concerns raised over whether dogs should be allowed, on-leash, the Council has again unanimously voted in favour of the project.
It willbe built and maintained by HRL Morrison and Co's Public Infrastructure Partnership Fund, with topping-up from the council should the SkyPath not be profitable post-build.
The decision by the Governing Body was strictly a formality after the Performance and Finance Committee confirmed the funding plan a week ago.
After more than five hours of submissions from six groups, intense questioning and debate, councillors unanimously voted in favour of the public private partnership.
