Emergency services are at the scene of an explosion in a Wellington apartment.
A police spokesman said they were called to the scene, on Eastern Hutt Rd, after reports of an explosion in a second floor apartment.
He said it was believed to be a gas explosion, and no one was injured.
A fire in the apartment had been extinguished by the fire service.
A fire service spokeswoman said it was too early to determine the cause of the blaze.
Two fire trucks are still at the scene and shattered glass can be seen outside the building.
The apartment is directly opposite to Taita College.
A group of people standing across the road, one in a dressing gown, didn't want to comment.
Police said Eastern Hutt road was temporarily closed but has now opened.
Traffic was heavy but moving.
