Two people have been freed from the wreckage of a crash that closed a major Wellington road this morning.
Police say a van and ute collided on the Haywards Hill Road just before 5.30am.
Two people were trapped and firefighters cut the injured out of their vehicles.
A fire spokeswoman said one person was trapped in each vehicle.

The accident happened just 500m north of the intersection at State Highway 2.
Police advised motorists travelling between Hutt Valley and Porirua the road was closed with no diversions in place.
