Two people - including a 6-year-old girl - have been hospitalised after two separate incidents involving spiders and wasps over the past 24 hours.
Waikato's Westpac Rescue Helicopter was sent to Rakaunui, west of Kawhia, on Saturday morning to tend to a girl who was bitten by a white-tailed spider on Friday night.
The girl was flown to Waikato Hospital with an infection caused by the bite. The helicopter was dispatched because of her remote location.
At 11am the BayTrust Rescue Helicopter was sent to Galatea to pick up a 53-year-old man who was stung by a wasp and had an allergic reaction. He was taken to Rotorua Hospital for further treatment.
