Hamilton police are seeking a man wearing hi-vis orange overalls after he attacked a woman as she walked to work.

Detective Senior Sergeant Ross Patterson of the Hamilton CIB said police were called to Hood St, between Anglesea and Alexandra streets, shortly after 6am yesterday.

"We're yet to formally interview the victim but it appears a man in hi-vis orange overalls has assaulted the woman as she was walking to work.

"Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage to try and identify the man and we're hoping someone in the area between 5.45 and 6.15am may either have witnessed the attack or recall a person wearing such overalls."

Mr Patterson said police would also like to hear from anyone who noticed any suspicious activity or vehicles in the area.

Anyone who witnessed the assault, who knows anything about the attacker or who noticed any suspicious activity or vehicles is asked to contact Detective Andrew Hawke at the Hamilton Central Police Station on (07) 858 6200.

Information can be left anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
