A man who died after a pruning accident at home yesterday was a popular friend and beloved grandfather, his wife says.

Bert Chaney's wife, Elaine, said her husband, 75, was a well-liked man who had lived in Stokes Valley for 48 years.

"He was very popular with everybody."

Mrs Chaney said her husband had lots of friends in the neighbourhood.

He fell from a ngaio tree he was pruning at home.

Mrs Chaney found her husband after the accident yesterday.

His grandchildren called him "Grand-Bert" and Mr Chaney was fond of DIY and working on his house and garden.
