A woman who was killed by a train in West Auckland discharged herself from hospital shortly before her death.
The 46-year-old is thought to have been crossing tracks on Great North Rd, Henderson, outside the Corban Estate Arts Centre, when she was struck about 4pm. Police have said this morning the death has been referred to the coroner.
In a statement, they also revealed the woman had "self-discharged" from the Waitakere Hospital emergency department shortly before.
As is routine with the sudden or unexpected death of any person, police are investigating the circumstances that led up to the incident and these details will then be passed to the coroner," a police statement says.
A statement from Waitemata DHB said the woman left the emergency department "before clinical assessments were finalised". "Our condolences go to the patient's family at this difficult time.
