Two cars have collided on the Northwestern Motorway in Auckland.

Two people have been taken to Waitakere Hospital in a moderate condition, a St John ambulance spokesman said.

The crash happened shortly after 1.30pm today on the westbound lanes near the Point Chevalier exit.

The cars involved were at one point blocking a motorway lane but both lanes were now clear, said an NZTA spokeswoman.

Police have cleared the lane but remained on site.

Traffic was only slightly disrupted.

"There is about a 200m tailback, but it's moving," said NZTA spokeswoman Sarah Azam.
