One person is dead following an accident involving a digger on a farm in Port Waikato this morning.
Emergency services were notified of the accident off Klondyke Rd, Port Waikato about 8.17am, said police northern communication shift inspector Chris Tate.
He said police were working to formally identify the person and notify next of kin.
Initial reports from a Fire Service spokesman was the accident involved a digger and was a on a forestry site.
However, it is now understood the accident occurred on a farm.
As the accident was not on a public road, but on a work site, WorkSafe would handle the investigation.
WorkSafe had been notified about the incident and was investigating, a spokesman said.
He said the agency understood the fatal accident happened on a farm.
