Man charged over vicious Auckland home invasion

A 34 year-old man has been charged in connection with a home invasion in central Auckland in which a woman was seriously injured in her home.

The man will make his first appearance in Auckland District Court today. He is accused of burglary and wounding with intent to cause injury.

Police say the incident happened in Eden Terrace's Karaka St on December 2, 2014.

The woman was hit over the head with a bottle and severely beaten during a "terrifying" home invasion, an ordeal which left her scared of going out at night alone.

She received life-threatening injuries.

Police have previously made public appeals for information about the attack and released identikit images of the alleged offender.
