Jaron Phillips, Northern Fire Communications shift manager, said the vehicle rolled on a tanker track on a rural property and had started leaking some fuel.
Mr Phillips said the tanker was carrying some 13,000 litres of diesel and about 800 litres of petrol when it came to grief just before 7am.
A hazardous materials team from Otara, technical rescue tender from Papatoetoe, foam attendants from Manurewa, two additional fire crews from Tuakau and seven appliances were at the scene near Ruebe Road at 8.10am.
