Police are asking to speak to any witnesses of a crash that left one dead and six injured in the Western Bay of Plenty last night.

Emergency services responded to the crash scene on State Highway 2 between Pahoia Rd and Apata Station Rd, near Tauranga, about 7.30pm yesterday.

The crash involved a large truck, a small truck and an SUV towing a trailer.

Police said the driver of the small truck died at the scene.


The deceased's next of kin had been advised however police said they would not be releasing the driver's name at this stage.

The five occupants of the SUV, and the driver of a large truck, were taken to Tauranga Hospital with minor injuries.

Police said the serious crash unit was investigating the crash.
