A police officer attacked by a dog while attending a domestic violence callout in Tokoroa is expected to be discharged from hospital tomorrow.

The officer is in Waikato Hospital recovering from surgery to repair damage to his leg from the dog bite.

His area commander had been to see him today and a police spokesman said the officer was in "good spirits and looking forward to getting back to work as soon as possible".

He declined to speak about the incident.
