Two Tauranga men accused of being involved in a home invasion burglary in Whakamarama during which a man was severely assaulted and lost an eye will defend the allegations at trial.
Tama Waitai, 27, and Carl Tremayne, 43, both denied joint charges of aggravated burglary, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and injuring with intent to injure when they appeared in Tauranga District Court today.
Police allege that on December 22 Waitai and Tremayne and two other masked people entered a Whakamarama property and assaulted two occupants aged 31 and 50, one so severely he needed to have an eye surgically removed.
Both men who were arrested after an armed police raid on the Filthy Few Motorcycle Club headquarters in Birch Ave on Christmas Eve.
Police vehemently opposed bail for both defendants on several grounds, including the fact they say the other two alleged offenders remain outstanding.
