All Black Julian Savea is likely to be granted diversion on his assault charge next month, his lawyer says.
The 22-year-old was due to appear in Wellington District Court this morning on a charge relating to a domestic incident with his partner Dawn Rodgers earlier this year.
But a court registrar said the player's attendance was excused and the matter would be adjourned until next month.
Savea has been attending an anti-violence programme, which is expected to result in diversion being granted, his lawyer Noel Sainsbury said.
Mr Sainsbury told APNZ his client had "a couple of things he has to complete'' and he had asked for the matter to be set aside until October 25.
