A young man has been killed following a serious car crash in Southland this morning.
Invercargill police Senior Sergeant Dave Raynes said at 6.30am this morning Invercargill police were called into a crash 200 metres east of the Lorneville-Dacre highway, north of Invercargill.
A 24-year-old man was found dead at the scene, he was the sole occupant of a Honda saloon.
Police have closed part of the highway while a scene examination takes place.

So far there has been no indication of what caused the crash, Mr Raynes said.
No other vehicles are believed to be involved.
Police are waiting to contact the man's family before confirming his identity.
