A cordon has been lifted at the air force's Ohakea air base near Palmerston North after a suspicious package was found at the main gate.
An army bomb squad was called but the package was understood to have belonged to a crew member and was declared safe.
The air force put a cordon for 100 metres around the main gate before the package was inspected.
