A post-mortem examination is underway on a body found in Mount Victoria last night.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thornton of Wellington CIB said the body is that of a male but he is yet to be formally identified.

"The occupants of an address in Home St, Mount Victoria discovered the body in a shed at the rear of their property around 6 o'clock last night," Mr Thorton said.

"Officers have completed a scene examination at the address today and once the post-mortem examination is completed, police will be able to determine whether the death is suspicious or if it should be referred to the coroner."

No further details will be released by police until the post-mortem is completed, which is expected to be late this evening.
