Muff Road is staying.
A resident of the road in Orari, South Canterbury, wanted it to be renamed Ohapi Road to recognise the original geographic name of the district, and to stop street signs bearing the name being stolen.
But descendents of Yorkshireman and stonemason Sam Muff, who the road was named after, launched a petition to keep it.
Temuka and Geraldine community board members last night voted to keep it as Muff Road.
