Three bodies have been found in a house in Haumoana, 10km northeast of Hastings, this morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave de Lange said the bodies were found just before 10am by a family member who was visiting the house.

It was too early to say how the people died, or who they were, he said. However, he confirmed police were not looking for anyone else and that no weapons were found at the property.

"We are in the early stages of the investigation and it is far too early to confirm these sorts of details," Mr de Lange said.

"Our investigative team is at the scene at the moment and it will take some time to ascertain the facts.

"Until that happens, we are in no position to talk publicly and in any detail about what has happened at the house and who is involved."
