A man suffered a broken jaw when he was assaulted and robbed in Taupo last night.
Taupo police said the incident happened about 11.20pm when the man was walking along Roberts Street.
He was befriended by a Maori man while walking along the road. When they reached the Rifle Range Road intersection the victim was king hit and knocked to the ground.
He was kicked in the head, knocked unconscious and robbed of his wallet and money.
The man suffered a broken jaw and was treated at Taupo Hospital.
The offender has not been found and police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
