One of New Zealand's biggest underwater volcanoes has quietly blown its top.
Scientists on an American research vessel docked in Auckland found the summit of the 2300m Rumble III volcano, part of the 250km long southern ridge of the Kermadec Arc, had been lowered by about 100m.
