After the weather-madness that was February, Auckland basked in a cloudless March day yesterday and, happily, it looks set to last.
Temperatures reached the early 20s in some parts of Auckland while the rest of the North Island also benefited from a large high-pressure system moving slowly on to the country from the Tasman.
MetService forecaster Andy Downs said last night that Auckland had at least 10 hours of sunshine yesterday.
This was almost as much as the 13 hours recorded on Monday and Tuesday.
In the week to last Sunday Auckland had only 21.5 hours of sunshine and on two days there was no sunshine at all.
Fine weather is also forecast for most of the South Island this week although clouds and showers could move over Fiordland and Southland from Monday.
