Newmarket to get CCTV cameras

Businesses in the Auckland suburb of Newmarket are turning to technology in a bid to fight crime.

Closed Circuit TV cameras will be monitoring the streets around the clock in the next two months.

Spokesman Cameron Brewer said the area has problems with shoplifting, cars being broken into and graffiti.

He said the CCTV cameras will be mobile and can be put up in hotspots in a matter of minutes to catch culprits red handed.
