New scallop season

Fresh scallop lovers in Auckland and Northland will have to wait a little longer for their delicacy this year with the season for recreational gathering on east and west coasts changing from a mid-July opening to September 1.

The Ministry of Fisheries says better quality scallops are expected to result from the later season change.

The new recreational scallop taking season for Auckland and Northland now runs from September until March 31.
