New gun charges for woman

An 18-year-old woman faces new charges of shooting at police after she and her boyfriend allegedly drove 150km in a stolen van and fired at pursuing officers.

Yana Marie Anne Poata entered no plea to two charges of pointing a gun and five charges of firing a gun at police when she appeared in the Tauranga District Court yesterday.

Her boyfriend, who court documents name as James Samuelssee, was shot by an armed offenders squad officer at the end of the pursuit in Waihi on Monday. He is still in Waikato Hospital.
