New commercial spotlights Masterton

PACKED IN: Mastertonians squeeze into Regent Cinema's smaller theatre to view My Masterton's commercial.

When it comes to selling Masterton the locals are the best sales people, says mayor Lyn Patterson.

Mrs Patterson introduced the screening of MyMasterton's 2.5-minute advertisement at Regent 3 Cinema on Wednesday night, to a full house from media, businesses and the council.

The commercial, filmed over six days in Masterton by Mike Heydon of Jet Productions, featured iconic imagery of Wairarapa, with residents saying why the district was the place to live.

It has cost about $20,000 so far to produce.

"Part of the charm was using real people," said Mr Heydon.

He said the video was still "a little rough around the edges" and "a little bit tongue-in-cheek".

"We hope it's memorable."

Regent 3 Cinema owner Brent Goodwin and MyMasterton laid on popcorn for the audience.
