Carterton District Council has named the replacement for outgoing chief executive Colin Wright.
Jane Davis is the new chief executive and will join the council on November 11 after the retirement of Mr Wright.
Carterton mayor John Booth said Ms Davis has previously worked as a general manager at GreaterWellington Regional Council.
"Ms Davis was selected from a very strong field of more than 50 candidates, with all elected members supportive of the appointment," Mr Booth said.
"She brings extensive experience in strategic, regulatory and operational management to the role, together with strong leadership and management skills, and expertise in planning, mediation and community engagement."
Ms Davis, who lives in Wairarapa, has worked in policy analysis and as a planning consultant before entering the local government sector as a manager with Manawatu District Council.
She then spent two years as a manager for Wellington City Council before joining the regional council where she led four teams, and was a member of the executive leadership team.
She led the Wellington Regional Strategy on behalf of nine councils and managed development and monitoring of the region's land transport strategy.
