Nearly 5000 Auckland City homes may be on land contaminated by horticultural chemicals.
In a press conference this morning Mayor Dick Hubbard said 4,872 homes were potentially affected by farming practices from the mid 1900.
Those homes were mainly in Rosebank Road, Avondale, Glen Innes and Panmure with a few in Onehunga and Otahuhu.
Mr Hubbard said it was too early to even consider compensation should the contamination affect property values.
