Nato's chief military officer, General Knud Bartels, will visit New Zealand tomorrow following a visit to Australia.
He will be hosted by New Zealand's vice chief of Defence Force Air Vice-Marshal Kevin Short and will hold talks with the Secretary of Defence, Helene Quilter.
He is also expected to meetDefence Minister Gerry Brownlee.
The Chief of Defence Force, Lieutenant General Tim Keating, is in Saudi Arabia attending a meeting of the coalition against ISIS.
General Bartels will visit the RNZAF base in Whenuapai Auckland and the Devonport naval base while he is here.
Nato is not playing any formal role in the anti-ISIS coalition although many members, including Britain, Denmark and the United States, are taking part in military action against Isis in Iraq.
General Bartels was formerly the Chief of the Denmark Defence Force.
