National selects businessman as Rotorua candidate

Malcolm Short has been selected as the National Party's Rotorua candidate in this year's elections for parliament.

A local businessman, Mr Short is of Ngati Whakaue descent and is chairman of Pukeroa Oruwhata Holdings, Nagti Whakaue's business arm which is the organisation behind the Rotorua Central shopping mall.

"There are a number of key issues affecting Rotorua including lakes' ownership, the airport and resource management processes," Mr Short said.

Mr Short was selected ahead of Alan Delamere, the other candidate shortlisted by the local branch of the National Party to contest the Rotorua electorate.

Mr Short will challenge incumbent Rotorua MP Steve Chadwick.

Candidates for other parties have yet to be announced.
