A teenager charged with assault following the death of a man during a street brawl in south Auckland has appeared briefly in court.
The 16-year-old was granted name suppression when he appeared in Manukau Youth Court today.
He was remanded in custody to reappear next week.
All details, including the
name of the deceased, were also suppressed.
A 24-year-old, who was jointly charged with assault, will appear later today.
The charges were laid after a 21-year-old man died during an incident on Gifford Rd, Papatoetoe, about 1.30am yesterday.
Police were called after reports a car had driven into a crowd of about 40 people.
