Police want to know who took a kayak and a range of survival equipment to Rangitoto Island - and left it there.
A distinctive 3.5m long Ocean Kayak, originally yellow but painted blue and black in the style of Navy camouflage was found stashed above the high tide mark bypeople carrying out weed eradication at Flax Point in early March.
The Department of Conservation was advise and yesterday they passed the information onto police.
Senior Constable Anthony Flannagan said it was possible that whoever took the kayak to Rangitoto Island is still there.

"We're not aware of any missing person reports that fit with the equipment that's been passed onto us but, if anyone knows who used the kayak earlier this year, we'd like to hear from them," he said.
"It may be that it was stored for future use and whoever did that left the island by other means, but we want to be assured that whoever took it there is safe and well, not lost or injured on Rangitoto Island."
