Hand feeding wild dolphins at Tangalooma Island Resort

Moreton Bay is home to approximately 600 bottlenose dolphins and each evening as the sun begins to set across the water, a small pod makes their way to the shores of Tangalooma Island Resort. Since 1992, resort guests have had the opportunity to hand feed the dolphins as part of the Tangalooma wild dolphin feeding program.

Currently up to 11 dolphins frequent the shores of Tangalooma, hunting, surfing and playing with fellow pod members. The jetty at Tangalooma is the perfect platform for viewing and observing these wild dolphins as they continuously entertain all with their inquisitive antics. A dedicated Dolphin Care Team records the dolphins' behaviour each evening, monitoring growth, behaviour and interactions.

Included in selected accommodation and day cruise packages is the opportunity to wade into the water to feed these playful creatures. Day guests travelling on the Dolphin Adventure Tour also have the chance to participate in this unforgettable experience.

Whale Watching

Hervey Bay is a popular spot for our biggest coastal visitors, the humpback whales from June to November. More than 7,000 whales holiday in the Fraser Coast on their 5,000km migration from Antarctica to teach their baby calves sweet skills like breaching, spy hopping, tummy flashes and plenty of other survival tools.

Here's why Hervey Bay is the whale watching capital of Australia:

•Get up-close and personal on a catamaran experience or sit back and watch the whales play on a super vessel

•Share the ocean and swim with the whales

•Jump aboard the Whale Express with a half day tour or really get to know the barnacled beauties with an in-depth day tour

Mmwwwwwwaaah (that's whale speak for "Either way, you'll have a whale of a time!").

Held in February every second year, the festival encompasses a week of activities with the highlight being the classic Family Fun Day and colourful street parade. If you've never skied on watermelons or attempted a melon bungee, then you need to put the Chinchilla Melon Festival at the top of your to-do list!
