A 28-year-old man charged with the murder of an intellectually disabled woman at her home has been remanded in custody while two psychiatric reports are completed.
Mary Donnelly was found in her Upper Hutt flat by family on August 30.
The Upper Hutt man was charged last night and madea brief appearance in Lower Hutt District Court today.
Dressed in a prison-issue blue boilersuit the man, who has interim name suppression, was remanded in custody until his next appearance in October.
Two psychiatric reports into his mental health had been ordered to be completed by his next appearance.
The man was granted interim name suppression because of the ongoing nature of the investigation.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thornton said further inquiries into Ms Donnelly's death were now focused on the movements of a man seen at her Ebdentown Street flat the day before her death.
Ms Donnelly was living independently at her flat but had the support of a caregiver and her family.
