Murder inquiry after man set on fire

A homicide inquiry is underway after a person died after being set on fire in the Auckland suburb of Sandringham this afternoon.

A police northern communications spokesman said initial reports were received by ambulance staff, who were told a person had been set on fire at the Kiwitea Street address.

"The scene is therefore being treated as a homicide," the spokesman said.

A man found at the address was assisting police with their inquiries.

The police spokesman said further details would not be available for some time.
