A man has been charged with the murder of a man who died after being run over north of Gisborne last week.

Mark Anthony Paaka, 40, of Tolaga Bay, died on Halloween night.

Eye witnesses said he was run over several times during the incident on Endeavour Street in Tolaga Bay.

A 51-year-old man, who was previously arrested and charged with assault, has now been charged with murder, police said.

He is due to appear in Gisborne District Court on Friday.

A tangi for Mr Paaka took place in Tolaga Bay yesterday.
