Multiple crashes cause delays on Auckland's Southern Motorway

Motorists should expect delays on their journey home tonight after multiple crashes on Auckland's Southern Motorway.

Two separate incidents have now been cleared and all lanes are open, but heavy traffic remains prior to the northbound Mt Wellington off-ramp.

Traffic is also reported to be heavy southbound between Symonds St and Mt Wellington, with a breakdown partly blocking the left lane on the Newmarket Viaduct.

On the Northern Motorway traffic is heavy northbound between Onewa Rd and Upper Harbour Highway, and again from Oteha Valley to Redvale, and citybound at Greville Rd
and again between Northcote Rd and the Harbour bridge.

The Northwestern Motorway is heavy westbound between Newton Rd and Lincoln Rd, and citybound between Hobsonville Rd and Royal Rd.

The Southwestern Motorway is heavy northbound between Roscommon Rd and Neilson St, and southbound between Walmsley Rd and Massey Rd, at Cavendish Dr, and approaching the Southern link.

Earlier this afternoon a scrub fire near the Southwestern Motorway caused delays for Auckland motorists.

The fire has now been contained, said the NZTA, and all lanes are now open. They advised motorists to expect minor delays as traffic congestion eased in the area.

The scrub fire earlier blocked the left lane on State Highway 20, just after the SH20A northbound on-ramp.

Congestion was back to Portage Rd earlier and motorists were asked to pass with care and to expect delays.
