Mr Frosty quits after child porn conviction

A Northland ice-cream vendor convicted of internet child porn charges is quitting his business to avoid contact with children.

John Apter, 40, of Paihia, was fined $9000 after he admitted 18 charges of trading or collecting child sex abuse images and electronic movies.

Apter had continued to operate his Mr Frosty ice-cream van after his conviction, but he now acknowledges it is inappropriate for him to run a business that brings him into contact with children.

"I was hoping to run the business so I could pay off the fines but that is not going to be possible," he said.

"When people find out that I've got the business ... I can understand that they would be concerned."

Apter also feared being harassed or attacked.
