Professor Thomas Lange has been appointed AUT's new Professor of Economics and Associate Dean (Research) in the Business Faculty. He has held appointments as professor and chair, head of department and dean of faculty at universities in Scotland and Wales.

Southern Cross Medical Care Society's new chief medical officer is Dr Peter Cooke. Previously the medical director of the public hospitals in Tauranga and Whakatane, Dr Cooke also has extensive hands-on experience, working as a specialist anaesthetist since 1986.
