The Department of Conservation is celebrating Conservation Week next month, starting on August 5.
To coincide with the United Nations International Year of the Mountains, this year's theme - Nga Maunga Korero, the language of mountains - celebrates New Zealand's mountains and hills.
DoC will be running a series of events around
the country during the week.
Details can be found on the DoC website, which has been developed with the support of Unesco.
The site has stories from New Zealand children talking about a mountain and its significance for them.
The stories are in English, te reo Maori and Mandarin.
There is an online teachers guide with background information, curriculum links, website links and suggested activities plus a mechanism for children to submit their stories.
